Infrared Flare Pilot Detection System

Page last modified
April 1 2025

ZEECO® IdentifEye™ uses long-wave infrared imaging technology to monitor critical aspects of flare systems. Operators can designate regions of interest on a flare system to distinguish pilot and flare flames for precise monitoring and pixel-by-pixel analysis. IdentifEye is also available with user-friendly software that is capable of monitoring, tracking, recording, and displaying live IR imagery, alarm settings, and more so that operators are always aware of their flare's performance.

ZEECO® IdentifEye™ Benefits:

- At grade, non-contact system (400m line of sight)

- Can be installed while flare remains in service

- No internet connection required

- Long-wave IR imaging technology resists environmental interference

- Custom ROI selection

- 3 ROIs for standalone unit

- 100 ROIs for advanced software package

- Instantaneous data capture

- Customizable IdentifEyeOS software

- Windows compatible

- Modbus compatible

- Hazardous and non-hazardous area configurations (ATEX, IECEx, NEMA)

- Air-purged window for environmental protection

- Operational in extreme temperatures (-40˚C to 60˚C)

Pros & Limitations
1
User selected regions of interest enable the IdentifEye system to distinguish between the main flare flame and the individual flare pilots. The programable regions of interest can be linked to process alarms and fed back to the customers DCS indicating the flame status of the flare pilots.
1
The system is highly configurable with the basic stand alone system capable of monitoring 3 regions of interest. The upgraded system expands the systems capability to monitor up to 100 regions of interest.
1
The system has been specifically designed to operate within industrial settings, meeting ATEX, IECEx & NEMA requirements. The system can be utilized onshore, offshore and in desert environments.
1
The selection of long wave infrared (LWIR) wavelengths prevents problematic attenuation of the measured signal by atmospheric moisture in the air (humidity/rain/fog).
1
The system can be positioned in an accessible location at grade and can be installed and configured whilst the flare system is online. This is far superior to traditional pilot flame detection methods which required access to the flare pilot, which is not possible without shutting down the flare.
1
The system can be installed with a maximum viewing distance of 400m line of site to the subject allowing for flexibility of mounting location.
1
The system can be used to identify "burn back" where the main flare flame stabilizes within the flare tip barrel. Tis can be achieved by creating a region of interest located on the flare tip barrel and monitoring its temperature. If the temperature increases above a set point an alarm can be sent to the customers DCS alerting the operator to take preventative action.
0
The system requires a line of site of the subject (e.g. flare pilot). Thus depending on your flare tips configuration more than one monitor maybe required to view all flare pilots. Zeeco's engineers can help you identify and plan for this.
