wel-lok Sand Control Tool (SCT)
Reduces sand production
The wel-lokTM Sand Control Tool (SCT) is a wireline-deployable technology designed to reduce unwanted sand production in wells with sand screens and open hole gravel pack completions. It utilizes a modified chemical reaction heater to melt a proprietary bismuth-based alloy downhole. This liquid alloy has a low viscosity similar to water and a high density around 10 times that of water. Due to these properties, the alloy can flow under gravity through the sand screen perforations and into the open hole gravel pack annulus without the need for surface pumping equipment. As the alloy cools and solidifies, it expands to create a gas-tight seal isolating the sand producing zone both inside the completion tubing and in the open hole annulus. The wel-lok SCT provides a permanent solution to eliminate sand production that is non-corrosive, effective in H2S/CO2 environments, and does not require perforating the screens or squeezing cement into the annulus like traditional sand control methods. It can be deployed on wireline in a single trip and sets quickly within hours to allow rapid return to production.
