UV Fluorescence Non-contact Oil Spill Detection Sensor
Detects oil on water surfaces using fluorescence technology
UV Fluorescence Non-contact Oil Spill Detection Sensor is an advanced technology for detecting oil spills on water surfaces in real-time. The sensor emits UV pulses onto the water surface from a distance of 0-10 meters, exciting oil molecules to fluoresce. It utilizes the inherent fluorescent properties of oil to identify its presence and chemical composition.
The sensor can detect oil films as thin as 1 micron on the water surface. It operates by emitting 365nm UV pulsed LED light, which stimulates the oil to produce fluorescence in the 400-650nm range. The specific peak fluorescence varies by oil type (e.g. crude oil ~480nm, light oil ~420nm). The fluorescence data is then processed through classification algorithms to determine oil presence and provide concentration estimates or alarms.
Key features include 24/7 continuous monitoring capability, high sensitivity, and an IP68 waterproof rating for harsh environments. The sensor interfaces via RS-485 using Modbus protocol and requires 24V DC power, consuming less than 1.5W. It has a response time under 10 seconds and can take measurements every 5 seconds minimum.
This non-contact method avoids issues with biofouling or contamination common in submersible sensors. The technology is applicable across various industries including wastewater treatment, oil refineries, ports, airports, and manufacturing, providing early detection of oil spills to minimize environmental impact and ensure regulatory compliance.
