Skytree Stratus
Modular, efficient direct air capture machine for CO₂ removal applications
Skytree Stratus is a modular Direct Air Capture (DAC) machine designed for decentralized or industrial-scale applications. Its key feature is a unique dual chamber design that maintains a constant high temperature in the sorbent heating chamber, optimizing energy consumption by avoiding thermal losses from cyclic heating and cooling of mechanical parts.
The Stratus machine operates through a four-step process:
1. Sorbent transport system
2. Adsorption
3. Desorption
4. Release
It is designed to be adaptable, with add-on options for various site conditions and scenarios. These include climate packages for different environments (temperate, arid, tropical, polar), low-temperature heat integration capabilities, and liquefaction for long-term CO2 storage or on-site supply.
The technology boasts high energy efficiency, with one modeled scenario in a polar climate achieving 1.38 kWh per captured kg of CO2 and a daily capture capacity of 1,343 kg of CO2 per machine. The life cycle assessment in this scenario showed 85% net efficiency.
Skytree Stratus is scalable and can be deployed as single units or as part of larger Stratus Parks. It is designed for fast deployment and flexible scalability, making it suitable for various applications including carbon sequestration, greenhouses, power-to-X processes, drink carbonation, and water treatment. The technology aims to provide a practical, lower-risk path to bankable carbon removal and utilization.
