Resolute EPG: Expanding Polymer Grain
Fast setting, impermeable, flexible and self healing subsurface barriers
Resolute are an innovative technology developer, with a highly experienced management team.
Having graduated from the Net Zero Technology Centre TechX Accelerator, Resolute have taken their EPG (Expanding Polymer Grain) solutions to market, with deployments around the world.
The technology is proven, with over thirty deployments.
Resolute Assure Expanding Polymer Grain is a patented technology developed by Resolute Energy Solutions Ltd. It is a fast-acting, expanding, flexible, and self-healing material designed for well abandonment and well integrity repair applications. The polymer grain is designed to be pumped down from the surface into the wellbore or reservoir, where it rapidly expands and forms an impermeable barrier within seconds or minutes.
The key features of this technology include:
1. Impermeability: It creates a barrier that is impermeable to both fluids and gases, preventing leakage and migration.
2. Expanding: EPG particulate can expand significantly, counteracting the shrinkage of cements and other materials.
3. Fast acting: Unlike cement, which can take hours or days to set, the polymer grain reacts and expands almost instantly, providing a much faster solution.
4. Self-healing: If any future cracks or leaks develop, the material can self-heal and automatically re-seal the barrier.
5. Semi-flexible: The material is semi-flexible, allowing it to conform to irregularities in the wellbore or reservoir without compromising its integrity. EPG can cope with formation changes over time, whereas solid state barriers can fail.
6. Low-cost: Enabling superior P&A on land wells, not just offshore applications where high technology costs can be absorbed.
This technology can provide a genuine Net Zero solution by completely blocking emissions from reservoirs and wellbores, outperforming cement in many scenarios, and offering a better alternative for well abandonment and integrity repair.
