Pressure Wave Valve
Intervention free, open-on-demand equalising device
The Oilenco pressure wave valve is an intervention-free, open-on-demand equalising device that provides a large through-bore when activated.
Set below a plug or packer as part of a system to create a barrier in a well, the pressure wave valve is functioned by applying pressure via a sequence of cycles. Functioning on a mechanical hydraulic principle, the internal mechanism operates only when it senses a 'wave' of applied pressure, i.e. starting from a low pressure range, increasing to an upper pressure range and back to low pressure. This sequence counts as one 'wave'. The tool is set to a pre-determined pressure cycle range which can be altered to suit well limitations. This allows the user to conduct several pressure tests without unintentionally opening the valve. By repeating the sequence several times to the pre-set parameters, the valve bursts open and provides a large through-bore and exceptional pump through capabilities without the need for further intervention.
Operation of the pressure wave valve is non time dependent. The first two 'waves' can take place within minutes of each other and the remainder several months or even years apart. The valve also requires no well specific setups or dedicated personnel on location to operate.
With options for both production and annulus bores in sizes ranging from 1.500" to 3.700" and flexible deployment options including the Oilenco hybrid plug (annulus or production), lock mandrels and bridge plugs, the pressure wave valve is a reliable solution for new completions, plug and abandonment campaigns or workover projects.
To find out more about how the pressure wave valve works, read about it in a case study where a decommissioning expert was actively seeking timesaving opportunities during abandonment tubing recovery operations.
