GeLiBat is a gel polymer electrolyte, lithium metal secondary battery technology with a unique combination of room temperature performance and safety. It exhibits an outstanding power and energy density together with meeting safety requirements for automotive industry. Additionally, it can be manufactured in regular Li-ion facilities with minor adaptation.

Main features of GeLiBat 5 Ah pouch cell prototype (tested at 25 ºC).

- Energy density: 350 Wh/kg | 1000 Wh/L | (0.2C, 3.0-4.3 V).
- Maximum C-rate (continuous/pulse) discharge: 5C/12C.
- Maximum C-rate (continuous/pulse) charge: 3C/6C.
- Safety at SOC100%: Nail penetration: Pass | Overcharge: Pass | Thermal stability: 120 ºC.
- Operation range: Charge: 25 to 60 ºC | Discharge: -20 to 60 ºC.
- Cyclability (DoD100%): 350 cycles.

The electrolyte is introduced in the cell as a liquid, so existing equipment can be still used to produce GeLiBat cells.

Specifically, the present invention discloses a copolymer for a polymer electrolyte, which includes:

(A) a fluorine-based polymer.

(B) a unit derived from an acrylate-based monomer or an acrylate-based polymer, wherein the unit derived from the acrylate-based monomer or the acrylate-based polymer is grafted on the fluorine-based polymer, and a weight ratio of the fluorine-based polymer to the unit derived from the acrylate-based monomer or the acrylate-based polymer is in a range of 1:99 to 40:60, and a gel polymer electrolyte in which lithium ion transfer capability is improved by including the same. Also, the present invention may prepare a lithium secondary battery in which high-temperature safety is improved by including the gel polymer electrolyte.
