Reinstate Failed Barriers to Avoid Delaying your Intervention Campaign

Page last modified

Gate Valve Isolations are a technology used in the oil and gas industry to address issues with damaged or leaking valves without requiring well shut-in or costly interventions. The process involves using a product called Mac-Pac, which is a non-curing sealant and lubricant with high viscosity that remains stable across a wide temperature range.

When a gate valve develops problems like damaged seats, failed pressure tests, or leaking stem seals, Mac-Pac can be deployed to isolate the valve and reinstate failed barriers. The isolation process typically involves connecting KCI deployment tooling to the valve's fitting, then injecting Mac-Pac sealant through the fitting to displace existing grease. This can be done up to a maximum working pressure of 5000 psi.

Mac-Pac fills all available space within the valve, pushing out any existing grease, water, or corrosive fluids that could cause internal corrosion. It also prevents well debris from entering the valve cavity, which can lead to erosion and wear. The product remains in a soft state and does not cure, allowing it to continually isolate any leak paths.

This technology offers several benefits, including avoiding delays in intervention campaigns, saving time and costs associated with freeze operations or barrier dispensation processes, and allowing for quick return to well production. Gate Valve Isolations using Mac-Pac can be applied in various scenarios, including surface, subsea, and topside applications, making it a versatile solution for maintaining well integrity and production efficiency.

Recognising the relentless challenges facing operators to maintain full production and extend the life of mature assets, KCI offers a range of unique products and services specifically designed to reduce costs and minimise downtime, whilst maintaining or increasing production across: sub sea, surface, refinery, down hole, topside pipeline and other applications.

Within its chemical engineering range KCI leak sealing solutions and isolation gel have enabled operators to achieve substantial savings across a range of maintenance, integrity and production issues: quickly, safely and cost effectively, with a high level of sustained success and little or no disruption to production. KCI solutions / isolations can be temporary (short term) or permanent, depending on operational requirements.

KCI also offers a range of easy-to-apply silicone based coatings to protect new and ageing structures and equipment against moisture, corrosion or erosion in mild and hazardous environmental or climatic conditions: internal, external, surface or sub sea. KCI takes a holistic approach to resolving customer issues by providing an in depth investigation / assessment, detailed procedures and highly skilled engineering, all of which are designed to ensure optimum success of individual projects.  KCI is also known within the industry for being able to address difficult and often unique problems which do not, or are unlikely to, respond to traditional methods or technology and as a result KCI products have been acclaimed as an example of best practice in the industry.
