Gate Valve Isolations
Reinstate Failed Barriers to Avoid Delaying your Intervention Campaign
Gate Valve Isolations are a technology used in the oil and gas industry to address issues with damaged or leaking valves without requiring well shut-in or costly interventions. The process involves using a product called Mac-Pac, which is a non-curing sealant and lubricant with high viscosity that remains stable across a wide temperature range.
When a gate valve develops problems like damaged seats, failed pressure tests, or leaking stem seals, Mac-Pac can be deployed to isolate the valve and reinstate failed barriers. The isolation process typically involves connecting KCI deployment tooling to the valve's fitting, then injecting Mac-Pac sealant through the fitting to displace existing grease. This can be done up to a maximum working pressure of 5000 psi.
Mac-Pac fills all available space within the valve, pushing out any existing grease, water, or corrosive fluids that could cause internal corrosion. It also prevents well debris from entering the valve cavity, which can lead to erosion and wear. The product remains in a soft state and does not cure, allowing it to continually isolate any leak paths.
This technology offers several benefits, including avoiding delays in intervention campaigns, saving time and costs associated with freeze operations or barrier dispensation processes, and allowing for quick return to well production. Gate Valve Isolations using Mac-Pac can be applied in various scenarios, including surface, subsea, and topside applications, making it a versatile solution for maintaining well integrity and production efficiency.
