Ex Connectors
Connectors designed for safe use in explosive and hazardous environments
Ex Connectors are specialized electrical connectors designed for use in explosive atmospheres or hazardous areas. Rota Ltd offers several ranges of Ex Connectors certified for different protection types:
Ex d connectors are flameproof, designed to contain an explosion within the connector housing. Examples include the D3 and BDY [ia] series.
Ex de connectors combine flameproof and increased safety protection, such as the DR4 series which also offers USB and Bluetooth options.
Ex i connectors are intrinsically safe, limiting electrical energy to prevent ignition. Rota's BY, MY, and RY series fall into this category.
Ex n connectors are non-sparking, intended for Zone 2 locations. The BN, MN, and RN series are examples.
Many of Rota's Ex connectors feature patented quick-release designs that allow plugs and sockets to snap together without threads, even on flameproof models. This enables faster connection and disconnection in hazardous areas.
The connectors have various international certifications including ATEX, IECEx, and AEx for use in explosive atmospheres globally. Rota also offers complete cable assembly and interconnection solutions incorporating these connectors, junction boxes, and cable reels - all assessed and documented to comply with ATEX directive 2014/34/EU for equipment in potentially explosive atmospheres.
