Monitor wetting and predict Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI)

Page last modified
October 6 2025

The solution is designed to provide continuous monitoring of wetting in insulation, to enable optimal inspection and maintenance plans. It consists of the Fusion 310 sensor detecting relative humidity, temperature and direct water presence, as well as the CirruSense CUI cloud platform providing dashboards with various visualizations and reporting levels.

Wetting is both the most important and unpredictable factor causing CUI. This leads to both over- and under inspection of insulated equipment. By knowing the location and duration of wetting, inspections can be focused on the affected areas.

The sensors utilize cutting-edge IoT technology to enable cost-efficient large-scale monitoring. Each sensor has a built-in modem connecting directly to cellular 4G/5G networks, removing the need for gateways in the process area, while supporting a large number of sensors covering the entire process plant. As longevity of the sensors is crucial to reduce the cost of monitoring, every bit of the sensor has been optimized to achieve a market leading battery life of 15 years.

By deploying the solution, fine-grained measurements are continuously collected to build a full history of the wetting conditions of monitored equipment. This data is transformed to insights by the CirruSense CUI analysis and prepared to enable optimal inspection plans by aggregating and presenting the results as reports. This leads to a more targeted inspection scope, as well as reducing the risk of corrosive conditions going undetected.
