Removes acid gas and carbonyl sulfide from hydrocarbon streams

Page last modified
June 4 2025

AMINEX is a proven technology developed by Merichem Technologies for removing acid gas (H2S) and carbonyl sulfide (COS) from LPG-type liquid and gas streams. It utilizes Merichem's proprietary FIBER FILM Contactor device for efficient mass transfer, with an appropriate amine as the treating reagent.

The FIBER FILM Contactor increases the liquid surface area, providing a more efficient process of mass transfer with little to no emulsification, carryover or high-pressure drop during phase transfer. This results in reduced capital expenditures, less plant space requirements, and a faster, more efficient mass-transfer process compared to other treating alternatives.

AMINEX has been successfully applied in various industrial settings, including NGL fractionation, crude distillation units, FCCU/RCCU, cokers, visbreakers, hydrocrackers, gas and oil production fields, and oil sands heavy oil upgraders. Merichem has licensed more than 25 AMINEX units worldwide, demonstrating its global applicability and effectiveness.

The technology can treat different stream types, including straight run and coker LPG, saturated LPG, unsaturated LPG, and mixed LPG streams. The latest iteration, FFC Plus technology, can increase hydrocarbon treating rates by up to 150 percent compared to earlier designs.

AMINEX technology, combined with Merichem's comprehensive capabilities in engineering, design, fabrication, testing, and technical support, offers a proven and flexible solution for removing acid gas and carbonyl sulfide contaminants from hydrocarbon streams across various industrial applications.
