In a recent computational engineering with Dieffenbacher, aixprocess assessed and optimized the separation efficiency and cooling effect of a low pressure drop cyclonic scrubber for dust and VOC removal.

Key Questions were:

Does the injected liquid spray capture the dust particles, cover the entire duct cross-section or do particles hit the wall, forming a film with low heat transfer

To answer these we had to model and evaluate the droplet - particle collisions in detail, including agglomeration probability, full heat and mass transfer.

📊 Check out the Video for results after various engineering iterations.

Although full model validation goes way beyond the usual scope of an industrial computational engineering project, the results were utilized for the design of new equipment after a thorough model sensitivity analysis and error assessment. The plant is being planned and will be designed and built according to aixprocess specifications. 🚀
