Description

Smarter Installation and Maintenance Equipment and Vessels
Do you know how the installation and maintenance of offshore wind farms can be made smarter and less labor-intensive? Then here is your chance to further develop your idea. TKI Offshore Energy organizes the open innovation call in collaboration with IRO/NMT and Innovation Quarter: Robotization within Offshore Energy – Smarter Installation and Maintenance Equipment and Vessels.

For the energy transition, we are short of people to do all the work. Especially at sea. The ambition for large-scale scaling, combined with the limited inflow into technical training and the high turnover in the offshore wind sector are exacerbating the shortage of personnel. Labor-saving innovations, such as standardization, digitalization, robotization, development of autonomous systems and automation, can reduce the workload of people or ensure a smarter organization of work around the available manpower. These innovations in the Dutch maritime manufacturing industry therefore contribute to a feasible energy transition at sea through labor savings, cost reduction, accelerated rollout and safer working.

Examples of relevant topics
- Working faster, safer and more precisely with fewer people
- Avoiding human error in routine work
- Unmanned supply vessels
- One vessel for the complete installation of wind farms
- Installation using drones or quadcopters
- Autonomous installation tools
- Augmented Reality for maintenance and installation vessels
-‘Resident’ drones for inspection and maintenance in the wind farm on and below the waterline
- Autonomous inspection solutions
- Combining underwater monitoring of offshore wind installations with monitoring ecology and aquaculture
- Autonomous maintenance solutions
- Research into regulatory framework
- Integrating robotisation into work processes

Sustainable energy generation in the North Sea is essential for a successful transition to an affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy supply in the Netherlands. By 2050, 70 gigawatts of energy should be generated in the North Sea. The TKI Offshore Energy plays a role in this by stimulating innovations and facilitating the development and dissemination of knowledge to ensure a responsible energy transition in the North Sea.  In simple terms, we assist all stakeholders involved in the offshore energy transition, ranging from energy companies to nature conservation organizations, from enterprises to small startups, and from knowledge institutions to NGOs, in moving forward. We help shape the energy system of the future, maximize the output of offshore sustainable energy while minimizing costs, and ensure a positive impact on nature. Big questions start with small actions.
