10 Dutch Technologies for Managing Turnarounds

18-10-2022
October Techs in the Spotlight

With the current high energy prices, optimizing turnarounds can have a big impact on your business performance.  Turnaround frequency and duration can vary depending on a multitude of factors, such as the resources available, the size and scope of the project, conditions at the location and any unforeseen issues or problems that might arise during the execution.

In this month's “Tech in the Spotlight”, we are featuring 10 Dutch technologies that can help you manage your turnarounds more effectively and efficiently. These technologies can help you to avoid costly surprises, optimize your turnaround planning, and ensure a safer and more efficient execution.

Double Block & Bleed Saver

Safe working behind leaking valves by installing a vacuum lock

The DBB-SAVER is the perfect solution for fully preventing any leakage in a Double Block & Bleed valve configuration or through a Single Isolation valve, like a ball, gate, or plug valve. It’s ideal for systems that contain hazardous media, including gasses and liquids that become gaseous under atmospheric conditions, such as LNG, LPG, and crude oil. This technology helps to minimize the risk of delays due to leaking valves and maximize plant availability.

The Double block & Bleed Saver has been deployed by companies including Shell, Nuon, Vattenfall and more.

IMS PEI – Pressure Equipment Integrity Module

Manage equipment integrity through RBI and advanced corrosion calculations

IMS PEI – Pressure Equipment Integrity Module is a cloud-based software for Pressure Equipment Integrity. It helps prevent leaks and explosions by improving your asset availability through inspection planning. IMS PEI – Pressure Equipment Integrity Module helps you manage equipment integrity by defining 'when' and 'what' to inspect or repair. It will support you in defining the scope/plan for your schedule and enable you to process thickness readings faster and more accurately than ever before. Today, IMS PEI has been deployed in 100+ assets, across the globe in companies such as, Shell, Saudi Aramco Jubail Refinery (SASREF) and more.

IMS RCM – Reliability Centered Maintenance

Setting the market standard in Integrity Management Software

The IMS RCM – Reliability Centered Maintenance Module is a tool to help with the optimization of an asset’s preventive maintenance plans. It supports the user to prioritize equipment based on risk. From the equipment’s risk profile, the best maintenance plan can be determined. This can be done manually or with library functions. This leads to safer assets with cost-effective maintenance plans and higher plant availability. IMS RCM – Reliability Centered Maintenance has been deployed in major companies such as PEMEX, Shell, Unipetrol and more.

Smart Helmet

The Industrial IoT solution for safe and streamlined work processes

With the smart helmet from Gemba IoT you know exactly what is happening. Anytime, in real time. Together with your asset management system, this intelligent safety helmet offers many more options. The Industrial Internet of Things or IIoT solution helps your company to work safer, more efficiently and better.

UT drone - wall thickness measurements

For a safer workplace and a lower downtime

Terra Inspectioneering executes ultrasonic thickness (UT) measurements using drones. With the Terra UT drone it is possible to execute certified steel thickness measurements at hard to reach places at height, such as storage tank walls, roofs and rafters or boiler tubes. The UT drone is Terra's proprietary development and is based on patented technology that enables the drone to firmly and precisely clean the spot to be measured and press the UT probe against the surface. In addition, Terra UT drone has been deployed successfully by many major companies, such as Shell, Exxon Mobil, BP and more.

Digital Confined Space Monitoring

Increase safety and efficiency during turnarounds and shutdowns

With VISICS you are able to see what’s happening inside the confined space, communicate with the engineer performing the maintenance activities and register exactly who has entered and left the manhole at what time. Not only just outside the confined space but also anywhere onsite and even offsite, where up to 12 manholes can be monitored at the same time by only a single person. This technology has been deployed by DOW Chemicals, Shell, BP and other companies.

RFID Tracking

Quickly locate assets and people across your plant

The VISICS tracking solution is based on RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tags. It consists of a tag, carried by a person or asset, that exchanges data with a RFID reader through radio frequency waves. This special software collects the data for users to quickly and easily locate assets and people. VISICS RFID tracking has been deployed by companies such, Woodside, Shell and more.

Tank Bottom Inspection Service (TBIT Ultra)

State-of-the-art automated feature detection and sizing in tank floors

A major concern for the integrity of a storage tank is the condition of the tank bottom. Corrosion is one of the most common threats. TBIT Ultra service is capable of accurately sizing the smallest metal loss defects, such as pinholes or microbiologically induced corrosion, helping to optimize your storage tank inspection program.

Motion Compensated Gangways (Telescopic Access Bridges)

To transfer people and cargo safely and easily to and from an offshore structure, SMST has developed a range of motion compensated gangways, the Telescopic Access Bridges (TAB) – S to XL series, that vary in length from 4 to 58 meters. The movements of the gangways can be passively or actively compensated. A number of companies, including Van Oord, Boskalis, and Jumbo Shipping, have deployed the motion compensated gangways  by SMST. All bridges can be deployed for cargo handling and are available for purchase or rent.

Ampelmann’s fully motion compensated gangway systems

Ampelmann moves people from ships, as well as shores to offshore structures. Ampelmann’s Walk to Work (W2W) solutions are fully motion compensated and are tailor-made to make clients’ offshore operations safer and more efficient. The company’s gangway systems are designed for different wave heights, weather conditions and vessel sizes. It has been deployed by some of the biggest names in the industry, including Shell, BP, Dong Energy, Solstad Offshore and many others.

We hope you enjoyed this month's Tech in the Spotlight edition. We know there's a lot of technologies out there and it can be tough to keep up with all of them. But don't worry, we'll continue to bring you the latest and greatest in tech so that you can stay informed and be ahead of the curve. Previous Technologies in the Spotlight

Geothermal Technologies in the Spotlight

Geothermal energy is ground heat stored in the earth's crust. To unlock geothermal energy, technical challenges need to be addressed that are similar to technical challenges for the exploration and production of oil and gas. As such, technology transfer is often seen as a cross-over between the two energy sectors.

Here, we are showcasing geothermal solutions that were also used and deployed by oil and gas companies.

Artificial Technologies in the Spotlight

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the ability for a computer to complete tasks which are usually done by humans, which include learning from (often huge amounts of) available resources and solving (business) problems.

Our Technologies in the Spotlight for August features nine (9) innovative AI technologies that could enhance knowledge on your assets, unlock optimal use of resources and accelerate decision making processes.

Shipping Energy Efficiency Technologies in the Spotlight

TechnologyCatalogue.com not only contains a large number of technologies for sustainable energy production; it also contains a wide range of technologies for sustainable energy consumption. Including technologies for shipping, with some of them deployed by Shell, BP, Saudi Aramco and other major players in the industry.

As such, we put together a list featuring eight (8) innovative energy efficiency technologies for the shipping industry.
